COVID-19 Response – Four Month Update

August 18, 2020

The City of Ottawa has entered Stage 3 of reopening after it declared a state of emergency on March 25. The past four months have been unprecedented – to say the least – and we all continue to adjust to new ways of life and work.

At Meals on Wheels/La Popote roulante, health and safety protocols are continuously monitored to ensure everyone stays safe and healthy. By now, volunteers and clients are familiar with meal deliveries with physical distancing, and hand sanitizer use is second nature. Our volunteers still have smiles on their faces, they’re just hidden under masks!

During the past few months, the majority of our clients switched from daily hot meals to weekly bulk frozen meals. This was to reduce face to face interaction and the risk of spreading germs. We are now working to switch clients back to the daily hot meal service if preferred.

Thank you to all members of the community who have offered support and help in this time of crisis to ensure seniors and adult with disabilities continue to be cared for. We are truly stronger when we come together – just not too close together!
