Meals on Wheels – 50th Anniversary Celebrations – Friday, June 8th
This year Meals on Wheels is celebrating its 50th anniversary. It is almost unimaginable to think that since 1968, Meals on Wheels/La Popote roulante has served almost 4.5 million meals in the Ottawa area! We would not be able to support our clients without the help of our dedicated volunteers, which included over 450 volunteers in 2017.
To mark this milestone, Meals on Wheels is having their 50th Anniversary Celebration Event on Friday, June 8th which will be held at The Good Companions Centre. It will be an event to recognize our volunteers and generous supporters over the years, but also an opportunity to relax, have a little fun and enjoy the festivities! Included in the evening event will be a photo booth, a silent auction, volunteer recognition awards and a scrumptious buffet dinner.
We have been fortunate to have the event sponsored by several of our trusted community partners including TD Bank Group, Apetito Canada and Enbridge Gas Distribution.
TD Bank Group has very generously sponsored the event in the amount of $3000! They have been delivering with Meals on Wheels since 1998 and their team currently delivers hot meals three times a month from the Riverside hospital. Over the years they have also provided financial support to support our program. It has been a long and wonderful relationship for which we are grateful. In recognition of their 20th anniversary of being a corporate delivery team they will be presented with a special plaque.
Enbridge Gas Distribution has also had a long time relationship with Meals on Wheels, reaching 20 years of volunteer service through their corporate delivery team in 2015. Over the years they have supported Meals on Wheels as front line delivery volunteers and with financial support. This year they will be sponsoring the event for $1000.
Apetito has provided frozen meals for Meals on Wheels since 1994 and this past year we delivered 36,323 frozen Apetito meals to clients. They have generously donated $1000 to our event
